Walking tours in France

21st January 2026

Bonjour de Port Chalmers.

As the holidays come to an end we wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2026. We had a quiet Christmas, cancelling our planned picnic lunch with friends because of the weather, but it turned out sunny for the 4 o’clock dog walk.  Photo of the blooming pohutukawas at Back Beach.

We’ve just received an update from James of the Walking Party and, surprisingly, he says the weather is warm at his home in Quercy and that he spotted a black woodpecker on his afternoon walk.  A rare visitor to south-west France.   He also confirmed the departures of his Fairytale France (3 May) and Transhumance (23 May) walks, but still has room for some Kiwi walkers.  These all-inclusive, six night walks start and end at Toulouse airport and are priced at 3390 euros per person.  Personally escorted by James, with many gourmet delights and the back up of a minibus, they are designed to be a relaxing, indulgent, walking experience rather than a hike.  They could easily be the highlight of your visit to France, so get in touch for the detailed itineraries.

He is also looking for people to join his St James Way walks in September from Le Puy to Conques and then from Conques to Cahors.  Above is the Lot River tow path near Cahors.  Perhaps you could combine one or both walks with a cruise on a rental boat.  Le Boat are extending their New Year flash sale until 20 January!

Bien cordialement,

Robert & Barbara
