New barge cruise in Brittany

New barge cruise in Brittany

15th November 2025

Bonjour encore.

We’ve just received this update on the charming barge Nymphea and think you should be interested.

For decades the Nymphea has been the only barge in the Loire Valley, but because of poor maintenance and flood damage, the Cher River is no longer navigable.  Consequently, the Nymphea has moved to Brittany and next season will be cruising along the Nantes à Brest canal between Redon and Josselin.  This is a delightful, peaceful waterway with few boats and the cruise includes a side trip up the very picturesque River Aff to La Gacilly; home to the museum and botanical gardens of Yves Rocher.  It also features cider, the best of Bretagne cuisine, dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant, neolithic standing stones and the medieval Chateau de Josselin.

The Nymphea has three cabins for six guests, who are met at the train station of Redon, or Rennes (depending the direction of the cruise).  The price for individual cabin bookings is US dollars $6190 per person, share twin.  Nymphea is a quirky, traditional barge and is ideal for charter groups so think about getting your family or friends together for a week in Brittany in 2026   We would be happy to help you expand your trip with additional accommodation, cycling and driving itineraries, or may be walking around Belle Ile.

Bien cordialement
