Private Tours by boat are our speciality, so we would love to develop your personal itinerary around these sample outlines, which we can change or fine tune to suit your interests.

BORDEAUX and CHARENTE RIVER – outline

Day 1  5.00pm meet for drinks & introductions at a central hotel in BORDEAUX.  Walk to DINNER at a restaurant.

Day 2  Morning excursion to the Margaux vineyards, including two wine tastings.  Free afternoon to enjoy Bordeaux.

Day 3  Free morning in Bordeaux, followed by an excursion to St Emilion for a guided tour of the village with a wine tasting.     

Day 4 (Monday)  Morning in Bordeaux to buy provisions, then minibus transfer to the Charente valley and Jarnac to collect our 5 star boat – Vision 4.   During a short cruise to Bassac everyone can try their hand at steering the boat.  Evening walk into the village for DINNER at a restaurant.

Day 5  After a private visit to the ancient Bassac Abbey, cruise to Chateauneuf-sur-Charente.   Walk to DINNER at a restaurant.

Day 6  Supermarket shop to top up supplies before a minibus excursion to Chateau Rochefoucauld.  Return to boat via Trois Palis for a chocolate workshop.   Overnight again at Chateauneuf-sur-Charente.

Day 7   To Angouleme by minibus for museums, ramparts walk, magnificent cathedral,  shops and cafes.  Return to the boat by train with time for a one hour evening cruise down to St Simon.  Dinner on board if the restaurant is closed.

Day 8  Continue downstream to Jarnac for the shady mooring before the lock.  After LUNCH at Chez Maxime and a walk-about, cruise to Bourg Charente.   Dinner on board.
Day 9  9am, meet chef Thierry Verrat at his Michelin starred restaurant, La Ribaudiere, for a cooking class followed by LUNCH.   Afternoon cruise to Cognac.
Day 10  Free day in Cognac to relax and discover its museum, garden, market hall and famous brandy houses.  Overnight in Cognac to enjoy its restaurants and brasseries, or cruise for an hour for a mooring in the country.
Day 11  Cruise to Saintes, arriving in time to explore this lovely town of many churches. DINNER at a restaurant.
Day 12  Backtrack towards Cognac, but moor at Chez Landart for the Babinot cellars and walk up to the windmill ruins.   Dinner on board.
Day 13  Cruise past Cognac to St Brice for a 3km walk to Abbaye de Chatre.  Moor by the bridge for the D15 and walk to Chateau de l’Yeuse for a grand DINNER.
Day 14  Return to Jarnac with free time to explore the town.  A clean out the fridge dinner on board.
Day 15   Return the boat and taxi transfer to the train station.  Tour ends. 

 
ALSACE  from Strasbourg – outline

Day 1  5.00pm meet for drinks & introductions at a central hotel in STRASBOURG.  Walk to DINNER at a restaurant.

Day 2  Guided morning walking tour, then free time to enjoy Strasbourg.

Day 3  Minibus excursion with a local guide to the wine villages and vineyards.
Day 4 (Friday)  Free morning in Strasbourg to buy provisions, then minibus transfer south to Boofzheim to collect our boat.   During a short cruise to Krafft everyone can try their hand at steering the boat.  Walk to DINNER in the village.
Day 5  Full day cruising, passing through Strasbourg to Schiltigheim.   Evening walk to DINNER at La Carambole.
Day 6  Cruise to Brumath for a traditional lunch at Auberge de la Foret, then continue to Waltenheim sur Zorn.   Dinner on board.
Day 7   After a short morning cruise to Hochfelden, visit the brewery Brasserie Meteor
Day 8  Cruise into the pine-clad Vosges Mountains and up to Saverne.  Optional walk up to the rose garden,  before DINNER at Zum Staeffele.
Day 9  Minibus excursion with overnight bag to La Petite Pierre, Niederbronn and the dramatic ruins of Chateau de Fleckenstein.   Then to Lembach for a Michelin-starred restaurant and a cooking class with chef Pascal Bastian followed by DINNER (only on Wednesday or Thursday).   Overnight in Lembach.
Day 10  After breakfast, return to Saverne, via the castle ruins at Haut Barr, then lunch on the boat.  Afternoon minibus excursion to Marmoutiers for its Romanesque church, then a forest walk to the Cascade du Nideck.  Overnight in Saverne.
Day 11  Cruise to Lutzelbourg.   Evening free or Bierstub d’Eselbahn …….
Day 12  A short cruise to the spectacular Arzviller boat lift which replaces 17 locks.  Next we turn on the lights and torches to negotiate two tunnels, before reaching Niderviller; a pretty village noted for its porcelain factory and shop.
Day 13  A short cruise to Hesse, arriving in time to explore the village and its church.   A clean out the fridge dinner on board.
Day 14 Return the boat and taxi transfer to Sarrebourg train station.  Tour ends. 

BURGUNDY – outline for Dijon and the Canal du Nivernais

Day 1  5.00pm meet for drinks & introductions at a central hotel in DIJON.  Walk to DINNER at a nearby restaurant.
Day 2   Morning walking tour of the historic town centre, then free time to enjoy its cobbled streets, shops, museums and churches.
Day 3   Minibus excursion to the Cote d’Or vineyards, featuring a wine tasting lunch.
Day 4   Depart Dijon, visiting the Abbey de Fontenay en route to Migennes, then swap the minibus for our boat.   Afternoon cruise on the Yonne river when everyone can try their hand at steering the boat.  Moor at Laroche St Cydroine and walk to DINNER at Au Rives de Yonne.
Day 5   Morning cruise up the Yonne river to Gergy.   Afternoon cruise to Auxerre.
Day 6  Morning walk-about in Auxerre, then cruise to Bailly and visit the vast wine
cellars.  Moor at Vincelles for dinner at Pub le Cellia.
Day 7  Cruise Pregilbert for the trout farm and catch, or buy, lunch.   Moor at Mailly-le-
Chateau, then walk up to the village to explore and have DINNER at a restaurant.
Day 8  Cruise to the Saussois cliffs and moor for an easy walk to the top for a
magnificent view.  Continue to our overnight mooring at Chatel Censoir.
Day 9  Early start with local wine guide for a full day excursion to the Chablis and
Auxerrois vineyards, returning to the boat via the hilltop village of Vezelay.
Day 10  Cruise to Lucy-sur-Yonne and walk to Ferme de Misery.  Continue to Clamecy,
which has several walking trails.   DINNER at 2 Pieces Cuisine.
Day 11  Free morning in Clamecy to relax and enjoy its cobbled streets and ancient houses, then cruise to Villers sur Yonne.   Evening walk into Dornecy for DINNER at La Manse, then a taxi back to the boat.
Day 12  Easy day’s cruising to Monceaux-le-Comte.   Explore the village and castle ruins before DINNER at Auberge du Centre.
Day 13  Cruise to Tannay, arriving in time to explore the village and its vineyards.   A clean out the fridge dinner on board.
Day 14  Return the boat and taxi transfer to Clamecy train station.  Tour ends.  

AQUITAINE  – outline for Toulouse and the Canal de Garonne

Day 1  5.00pm meet for drinks & introductions at a central hotel in TOULOUSE.  Walk to DINNER at a restaurant.
Day 2  Morning guided walking tour, then free time to  enjoy Toulouse’s many sights.
Day 3  Full day excursion to Albi; home of Toulouse Lautrec, the pretty village of Cordes sur Ciel and the Gaillac vineyards and wine museum, sampling the robust red wines.
Day 4 (Friday)  Morning in Toulouse to buy provisions, then minibus transfer to Castelsarrasin to collect our our  boat.   Cruise 4kms and negotiate 4 locks for a country mooring by Restaurant Felix for a hearty dinner of snails, steak and chips.
Day 5  Morning cruise to Moissac, via the canal bridge over the Tarn River.  After visiting to the famous abbey church and cloisters, free time to relax and explore.
Day 6  Enjoy the lively Sunday morning market in Moissac, then cruise to Pommevic, or to Valence d’Agen.
Day 7  Excursion on foot, bike or taxi to Auvillar (6kms).   LUNCH at l’Horloge, before returning to the boat to cruise to Lamagistere.   Walk up to Clermont-Soubiron.
Day 8  Cruise to Agen and explore the historic centre.  Possibly a special dinner at the Michelin-starred restaurant Mariottat.
Day 9  Minibus excursion with overnight bag to Nerac, Fources, Larressingle and Condom for an Armagnac tasting.  Overnight in the hilltop village of Lectoure at a notable hotel restaurant.
Day 10  Return to the boat via La Romieux and Laplume.  Afternoon cruise to Serignac-sur-Garonne.
Day 11  Cruise to Buzet-sur-Baise, then explore its notable vineyards.
Day 12  Side-cruise up the Baise River to Vianne,  visit the glass blower and explore, before returning to Buzet-s-Baise.
Day 13  Cruise to Damazan for walk-about and lunch, then continue to Le Mas d’Agenais.  Time to visit the church for a Rembrandt painting of the crucifixion, before a clean out the fridge dinner on board.
Day 14  Return the boat and taxi transfer to the train station.  Tour ends.

MIDI  – outline for Toulouse and the Canal du Midi

Day 1  5.00pm meet for drinks & introductions at a central hotel in TOULOUSE.  Walk to DINNER at a restaurant.

Day 2  Morning guided walking tour then free time to enjoy Toulouse’s many sights.

Day 3  Full day excursion to Albi; home of Toulouse Lautrec, the pretty village of Cordes sur Ciel and the Gaillac vineyards and wine museum, sampling the robust red wines.
Day 4  Free morning in Toulouse to buy provisions, then a minibus transfer to Narbonne to collect our boat.   A short cruise brings us to a mooring near the market hall.   Walk to DINNER at la Table des Cuisiniers Cavistes.
Day 5  Visit the market and Narbonne’s historic centre, then cruise to Salleles d’Aude.
Day 6  Cruise to Le Somail for a walk-about, the bookshop and hat museum. Afternoon cruise to Ventenac-en-Minervois,  in time to visit Chateau de Ventenac’s wine museum and cellars.
Day 7  Full day cruising to Homps, then enjoy a DINNER at Auberge l’Arbousier.
Day 8  Cruise to Puchicheric.  Local food & wine expert Emma will join us on board for a tutored tasting of the local wines with tapas.
Day 9  Today Emma will take us on an excursion to the hill-top village of Minerve to discover its vineyards and wines.  Evening cruise to Marseillette.
Day 10  Cruise to Trebes, then taxi transfer to a chocolate workshop.
Day 11  Cruising to Carcassonne.   DINNER at Atelier de Robert Rodriguez.
Day 12  Walk to La Cité for a guided tour of the ramparts, then free time.
Day 13  Return to Trebes.  Clean out the fridge dinner on board.
Day 14 Return the boat and taxi transfer to Carcassonne train station.  Tour ends.
