Bonjour from Port Chalmers.
Another short update on our Scotland-France 2020 tour before Christmas madness overtakes everyone. Let us introduce you to the charming four-bedroomed Colintraive Hotel, which sits at the narrowest point along the Kyle of Bute & will be our base for two nights. Clare runs the bar & restaurant while hubby Joe produces hearty breakfasts & delicious dinners from the kitchen. It’s a picturesque spot with some lovely walks, a community garden, and the ferry over to Bute.
Our visit to Bute (just 5mins away) features Mount Stuart, whose estate covers 300 acres of beautiful woodland and gardens. The house is one of the best examples of High Victorian Gothic in Britain and is simply stunning. It has the world’s first domestic heated swimming pool, an early telephone system and even a Victorian lift.
Our guided tour will amaze you, with the remarkable craftsmanship and the fine details of the lavish interiors, which include a map of the stars on the ceiling of the Marble Hall.
Bute is brushed by the Gulf stream creating a gentle temperate climate ideal for gardening and we’ll discover some these gardens before returning to Colintraive for a special dinner.
To enjoy Bute’s many charms and Joe’s cuisine, join our tour, which starts in Glasgow on Tuesday 22 September and ends in Perpignan on Sunday 11 October. 8690 Euros pp, share twin. Phone or email for the brochure with the daily itinerary.
